The Commission’s interim report is now posted on the website. This is a required step in the mandate. The report does not include facts of what happened or recommendations, as our work is still underway.

The interim report shares how the Commission is doing its work on behalf of Canadians to meet the requirements of the mandate outlined in the Orders in Council including the work to date, and what to expect as it fulfills its mandate. This includes the important questions that will be examined in relation to key topics, including critical incident response, firearms, police paraphernalia, intimate partner violence, rural communities, and post-event support.

A press release will be sent today, which you will be able to find here.

We know that our work does not happen in isolation. The interim report expresses our gratitude to the Participants – individuals, families, institutions and groups that have been granted specific opportunities to participate in the Commission’s work – and their counsel, and for input from many experts, organizations, groups and interested members of the public.

Proceedings are expected to take place until September 2022. Throughout proceedings the Commission will continue to hear from people in a variety of ways including witness testimony, submissions, roundtables, and small group sessions to hear individuals’ experiences directly. In the coming weeks and months, there will be more opportunities for public engagement, we will be inviting public submissions for suggested research and asking for your recommendations about how to help keep communities safer in the future.

As always, you are welcome to contact us by email or phone and are invited to attend our in-person public proceedings or watch the live webcast on the Commission website.
